Inspiring Readers project
Last saved: 20 July 2006
The Library Service branches of both local authority bodies have come together to organise a series of readings in local libraries, innovative workshops for parents and children and other events to raise levels of readership among young and old across the North West region.
In October 2005 a week-long festival ran in the libraries of counties Derry, Donegal and Tyrone and involved a poetry competition for 'Poems without Borders'. The programme included a blend of authors and writers to cater for all children's tastes with storytelling events hosted by Niall de Burca, Pat Ryan, Billy Teare and Liz Weir. These authors offered a new experience by weaving together magical stories from around the world and there was also an opportunity to learn about other cultures through specially themed cultural diversity sessions.
This festival is a celebration of reading and is an opportunity for children and young people from all communities to engage in reading events. So come along, be inspired, and contact your nearest library for details and bookings.
